Many Thanks again for doing this for us, very apreciated :) If I were to name the chinese sub timing it would be - impossibly fast subs or aim to pause in time subs, lol .... why do the chinese think we have photographic memory ... I do wonder. Cheers again :)(
@Dryvern, it does seem that nearly all Chinese shows should be run at a speed of 70% to 80% for the subtitles to be conveniently comfortably read. The Chinese shows seem to be produced at the usual talking speed of the Chinese population with a standard Chinese subtitle which has the same meaning in both Mandarin language and Cantonese language. Based on the most popular choice, subtitles are only shown on-screen for the period that the appropriate character is actually speaking and this applies to other language subtitles as well. (The other choice is to show the subs for an appropriate reading speed time) Most Japanese shows are produced on the same basis as western newsreaders are taught to read the news, that is, at half the speed you would expect the words to be commonly spoken, which enables people to more readily mentally absorb what is being said and also makes subtitles easier to follow. (There are many examples of fast speaking Japanese shows as well. I did say "most"!!!!) I do agree with you that it is most inconvenient to sit to watch almost every Chinese show with a finger on the pause button (space bar) so that the subtitles can be completely read while they are on screen!!!

Yeah, some donghua have insanely fast subs. I guess they say a lot with very few words in Mandarin. But you do get used to it, especially once you learn all the thematic terms in the first few episodes. Unironically the 60 FPS S1 and S2 upload here made it easier to get used to it, even though I typically don't like 60 FPS in animation.
